Congratulations to Brother Captain Ken “Kenny” VanStaveren on his retirement after 35 years of dedicated service to the community of Whitby!
Ken began his career as a volunteer member, completing 6 years before transitioning to full-time service, where he dedicated an exceptional 29 years!
Those who have had the pleasure of working alongside Ken would describe a career defined by passion for the job, and that even after 35 years, that drive and commitment never dampened.
Ken has also been regarded as an incredibly hard worker throughout his career, consistently setting the standard through his dedication, reliability, and leadership, on and off the job.
Above all, Ken was deeply caring to both the members he worked with and to the community he served for so many years. His support and compassion left a lasting impact on those around him, on and off of the trucks.
We thank you for your service and leadership Brother, and wish you all the best in retirement!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing Moms out there!
Today we recognize and celebrate all the incredible mothers who love, support, and sacrifice unconditionally every single day.
To all the mothers both on and off the trucks, and whether it’s fighting fires on the job or putting out the fires at home, your strength, and more importantly your patience never go unnoticed.
To the mothers who raised us and continue to support us every day, thank you for everything you do. You keep our families, our fire halls, and communities strong.
Today and every day, we celebrate you and all that you do.
We love you Moms!
Happy Mother’s Day 💐❤️

Today we honour all who answer the call this International Firefighters Day.
We recognize all of the firefighters who came before us and built the foundation we stand on today, and we stand united with our brothers and sisters who continue to answer the call alongside us.
To those we’ve lost, we honour your sacrifice by carrying your legacy forward in every call we answer and in every life we protect. Your courage continues to guide us and will never be forgotten.
